
Francisco Rojas Cano, former local deputy of the PAN and businessman, was shot dead on Thursday, January 30, while at the facilities of the Institute of Registral Function of the State of Mexico (IFREM). This tragic incident adds to the murder of his father, Francisco Rojas San Román, in 2018, when he was also a PRI candidate for the municipal government of Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico.
Initial reports indicate that during the attack, a lawyer who was conducting procedures at the institution, located in the San José neighborhood of the municipality of Cuautitlán Mexico, also died. It was reported that several individuals entered the governmental building to directly attack Rojas Cano, who was shot in the head.
Family, friends, and loved ones of Francisco Rojas Cano have demanded justice from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico. Despite the presence of police security at the facilities, no arrests related to the crime have been reported so far.
Francisco Rojas Cano, known as Paco Rojas in the political sphere, was a councilor in Cuautitlán Izcalli during the period 2003-2006 and later a local deputy. In the 2024 elections, he unsuccessfully ran for the federal deputy of District 7 in the PAN-PRI-PRD alliance.
With this tragic event, acts of violence against political leaders in the State of Mexico persist, adding to a concerning pattern of attacks in the region.
